@carbontwelve Please add me to Distributed Networks, Information Technology, Programming, Sysadmins.

I have spent the last three days preparing our voice system for a switchover, a switchover I was told would be scheduled for the end of the day today.

Spoke with their support/engineering department a little while ago and was told "we don't schedule these things, it'll get done in the next 12 or so hours"

So now I'm just hoping that they do it at the end of the day and not in the middle of it. How is it that SIP providers are allowed to get away with this stuff?

I have been on vacation for my dogs spaying, this is the first time in something like 7 months that I've actually had enough time to completely stop thinking about work and things that need to be done.

I go back tomorrow though, where I'm sure I'll have a huge list of items waiting for me due to being the only IT person.

Most amazing to me is that my boss only reached out once so far this week, in the past it was at least once a day.

Thinking of testing just how far I can scale/cluster Mastodon just for fun. (And learning) anyone have any experience with scaling across multiple servers/zones?

SysAdmins Zone is now running the Glitch flavor of Mastodon, Markdown and HTML formatting is now a thing! Plus, a bunch of other cool little features.

I've also deployed Elastic Search, so post searching is now a thing.

I've made sysadmins.zone a bit more robust by migrating files to an S3 compatible hosting service, and migrating to a Postgres cluster setup. Looking into setting up Elastic search now.

Sticking to privacy values and doing the "right" thing is very expensive in this game. But worth it in view, and the score isn't/wasn't half bad.

Another thing that new users may not realize is that your Mastodon account isn't limited to following other Mastodon accounts. Mastodon uses a common open source protocol called ActivityPub, and can interact with other services that use that same protocol. Pleroma, for example, or PeerTube, or PixelFed. It's like being able to subscribe to Instagram or YouTube from your Twitter account.

It's honestly pretty insane how good Mastodon is, there are 100% still issues in terms of things like finding people to follow, but hopefully that get's resolved as more people migrate from twitter.

I'm hoping some of my favorite companies like Cloudflare and Microsoft join Mastodon.

SysAdmins Zone

SysAdmins Zone is a Mastodon server for IT professionals to congregate and use. However, anyone is welcome to join us!
